Tax-Efficient Wealth Preservation
Preserving wealth requires more than investment performance. We integrate advanced wealth management and tax strategy to help clients make more tax-aware decisions across their investments, retirement, estate and broader financial lives.
Building Value with Your Taxes in Mind
Building wealth is only part of the equation. Preserving it requires understanding how taxes intersect with your investments, retirement income, estate, charitable giving and other important financial decisions.
At Envest Asset Management, tax strategy is not treated as a once-a-year exercise or an isolated service. It is integrated into the broader wealth management process, helping clients make informed decisions with both their immediate tax implications and long-term financial goals in mind.
Why Envest Tax Advisory Exists
Most people only think about taxes in April, when it is too late to do much about them. We think about them year-round, because that kind of proactive approach is when the real savings happen.
Envest Tax Advisory, LLC is a sister company of Envest Asset Management, built to give our clients — a dedicated home for proactive tax strategy. Led by James Osborn, CPWA®, EA and Karen Ogden, CFP® — the firm offers specialized guidance at the intersection of investment strategy and tax planning. We’re not a seasonal filing shop; we’re a planning partner that also makes sure the paperwork is right.
It’s Not Just a Return. It’s a Strategy.
A tax return reports what already happened. Tax planning changes what happens next. Our work centers on the decisions made before December 31st — the ones that determine what your return will say, not just how accurately it says it.
Areas we focus on:
- Lifetime tax liability planning — mapping your tax exposure across future years , not just the current filing year
- Roth conversion strategy — timing conversions to fill low-bracket years and reduce future required distributions
- Charitable and values-aligned giving strategies — donor-advised funds, qualified charitable distributions, and appreciated-asset gifting for clients who want their giving to work as hard as their investments
- Business owner tax strategy — entity structure, retirement plan design, and income-timing decisions for founders and small business owners
- Equity compensation and concentrated stock positions — RSU, ISO, and NSO planning tied to your broader liquidity and diversification goals
- Estate and multigenerational tax coordination — working alongside your estate attorney so your plan holds up beyond your own lifetime
- Year-round coordination with your CPA or tax preparer — we don’t replace your filer, we make their job easier and your outcome better
- And many other tactics, including but not limited to tax-loss harvesting, asset-location strategy, municipal-bond analysis when appropriate, etc.!
Our Approach: Tax Strategy That Answers to You, Not a Product
We are fee-only and a fiduciary. That means two things you can hold us to:
1. We don’t earn commissions on any product, insurance policy, or investment we might recommend as part of a tax strategy. Our advice isn’t shaped by what pays us — it’s shaped by what’s actually best for your household or business.
2. We are legally and ethically obligated to act in your best interest, full stop — not just when it’s convenient or required by a specific transaction.
This is the same standard that governs Envest Asset Management, because Envest Tax Advisory was never meant to be a separate philosophy — just a deeper application of the same one.
A Credentialed Team, Working as One
Business owners navigating entity structure, succession, and the tax consequences of a saleA well-built portfolio and tax strategy should never operate in isolation. Our advisors hold credentials that let us look at your full financial picture that includes investments, planning, and tax as one connected system, not three separate conversations.
- Enrolled Agent (EA) — the only tax credential granted directly by the IRS, giving unlimited rights to represent clients on tax matters before the agency
- CFP® — comprehensive financial planning across cash flow, retirement, insurance, estate, and education needs
- CPWA® — advanced wealth management expertise built for the complexity that comes with real, growing wealth

FAQs
What's the difference between tax preparation and tax planning?
Tax preparation reports what already happened last year. Tax planning is the work we do now that changes what next year’s return will look like before the window to act has closed.
Do you file my tax return?
Our role is strategy, not preparation. We work directly alongside your CPA or tax preparer to make sure the strategies we build together are properly reflected on your filed return, so nothing gets lost in translation.
I already have a financial advisor. Can I still work with you?
No. We want to ensure that our financial planning strategies and tax planning strategies are aligned. Good tax strategy should complement your financial plan and not compete with it.
How do I get started?
Schedule a complimentary introductory conversation. We’ll talk through your current situation and whether a deeper planning engagement makes sense — no pressure, no obligation.
Because What You Keep Matters as Much as What You Earn
Envest Tax Advisory exists for the same reason Envest Asset Management does: we believe building real, lasting value and living according to your values were never supposed to be in tension. Smart tax strategy is one more place those two things meet.
